Looking forward to welcoming everyone on Wednesday 4th September.
Welcome to Pennington Junior School
I am delighted to welcome you and your child to Pennington Junior School. The next step in your child’s educational journey is an exciting but perhaps slightly anxious one. I hope that the information contained within this pack will help answer any questions you may have about school.
Our website is another useful source of information: http://www.penningtonjunior.com
Communication is key to a good home school partnership and we try to ensure that important information is accessible to all. Our regular newsletters are sent via a mobile texting service and are posted on the school website. Hard copies are available in the foyer of the school office. Reminders of key events are sent out via text message and our Facebook page.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. I very much look forward to getting to know both you and your child.
Contained within this pack:
The School Day:
We offer a before School Sports Club or Breakfast Club Monday-Friday. These start at 7:45 am and run as drop in sessions at £1.50 a session each.
The school gates open at 8:30 am. Mrs Pardey is available at the front of the school to take any messages and pass on any of your queries. Please ensure your child is not left on their own prior to 08:30 am, as there are no staff present on the playground before this time.
The doors are opened at 08:35 am when the children make their way into the school building, have time to organise themselves, talk to the class teacher and friends and generally settle before the day starts. At 08:45 am the school gates will be locked and at 8:50 am the register will be closed. Anyone arriving after this time will need to enter the building through reception and will be marked as late.
As a Priestlands Pyramid and Hamphire School we have an agreed Attendance policy. The full policy is available on the school website or from the school office.
The school day finishes at 3:15 pm. The school gates will be opened after 3:10 pm or after any outdoor lessons have finished and the children have returned to class. The children will exit the school onto the playground behind the classrooms where we encourage you to wait.
Your child’s teacher will see the children out at the end of the day which does enable you to catch up with any concerns or information that may need sharing.
If you wish to speak to your class teacher for any length of time please make an appointment through the school office, and they will arrange this for you.
We offer an after School drop in Sports Club, Monday to Thursday, from 3:15-4.30pm at £1.50 a session. There is Singing and Drama Club on a Thursday and a chance for children to stay and do homework on a Tuesday. Children should be collected from outside the school office.
Free School Meals:
Are you entitled to free school meals? There is an information leaflet enclosed within the pack provided, it is very easy to find out if you are eligible, by following the below web address:
If you would like any support with applying, please pop in to the school on Thursday 20th June between 2 pm and 3:30 and Mrs Clark will help you apply.
Taking pride in school is important and one way of showing this and sharing a sense of identity is through the wearing of school uniform and general appearance. You can purchase the logoed uniform through PMG schoolwear based in New Milton.
Please ensure every item is labelled
Toys and Mobile Phones:
As a rule no child should bring a mobile phone or other electronic items into school. We do, however, appreciate that there may be occasional times when your child may need a mobile phone for an after school event or walking home. If this is the case, please ensure that the child hands in their phone to the office for safekeeping. They can then collect at home time.
Toys in School: We discourage this as far as possible, as they can be broken or lost. We have a clear rule that swapping is not allowed.
As a school we provide balls and outside toys for break time activities. We therefore ask that no balls are brought in from home.
